The Adopt-a-Soldier Program is a community-focused not-for-profit 501©3 organization.  We serve our men and women from Door and Kewaunee Counties.  Now, many individuals and companies from the community, as well as a number of large national ones, provide much-needed support.

Who we are...

And why we do it!

Jared Spude–a soldier who was a recipient of this program–came back home to Door County and said how proud and grateful he was for this community and the support they showed him.  He said without the support he received, his return to life after the military would have been more difficult. His motto was, “Give without remembering, receive without forgetting.”  Our program has adopted his motto, as it is truly the way we should all live our lives.  We should never forget what our soldiers continue to give on a daily basis because unfortunately there are some who give the ultimate sacrifice.

What we do...

To date we send care packages eight times per year to 192 local soldiers and the local U.S. Coast Guard that are serving stateside and overseas.  In total we send well over 1,000 boxes each years at a cost of about $20/box!  Recently, we added 76 of our local Coast Guard members to our program.  We have found that even though they are in our community, they still need some extra help at times.  For those who have families here, we provide them with extra groceries if needed, school supplies, and gifts for the children during the holidays.  We also provide homemade baked items to the soldiers on duty on the ship.
